Trakt: best for automatic tracking
Trakt has been around the longest and has the biggest ecosystem. Its standout feature is scrobbling: connect Plex, Kodi, Infuse or a supported app and what you watch is logged automatically. A huge number of third-party apps are built on Trakt, which is why so many power users rely on it.
The trade-off is cost and limits. In 2025 Trakt raised VIP prices sharply and tightened its free tier. For 2026 the free plan allows a 250-item watchlist, 5 personal lists and 100,000 watched history entries, and free accounts can only connect one third-party app at a time.
Choose Trakt if most of your watching happens through Plex, Kodi or other apps that can scrobble, and you’re happy to pay for VIP to get the most out of it. Looking for a Trakt alternative? Simkl and haveseen are both free, and haveseen imports your Trakt history directly.
Simkl: best free all-rounder (with ads)
Simkl tracks TV, anime and films, has apps for almost every platform, can track automatically, and imports history from more than 14 services. Its anime support is especially strong, with two-way MyAnimeList sync on VIP. The free plan covers a lot: full history, calendars, notifications and imports.
The free plan shows ads, and features like a private profile and ad-free browsing need PRO or VIP. Simkl also says regular users can unlock PRO features by using it for at least 20 days in a month.
Choose Simkl if you want one free app that does a bit of everything on every device. Looking for a Simkl alternative? haveseen is free with no ads and adds a discussion for every episode.
Serializd: best for reviewing TV
Serializd is often described as “Letterboxd for TV”. You can log episodes and seasons, but the heart of it is rating and reviewing, and reading what others thought. It’s free, it imports from TV Time and Trakt, and it has a lively community of TV fans.
It’s focused on television, so it’s not the place to keep a film diary, and it doesn’t pull in your viewing history from streaming services.
Choose Serializd if writing and reading reviews matters more to you than tracking where you’re up to.
haveseen: free, ad-free, and closest to TV Time
haveseen was built to fill the gap TV Time left. It tracks shows, anime and films in one place, with a Watch next list, an upcoming-episodes calendar, and a discussion page for every episode with spoiler protection, replies, votes, GIFs, pictures and a meme maker. You can rate episodes, say how they made you feel and pick who stole the scene, just like TV Time. It’s free, with no ads and no limits.
It also imports your history straight from the streaming services: your Netflix viewing history, Prime Video watch history, Disney+, Crunchyroll, Max and Apple TV+, plus TV Time, Trakt, Letterboxd and MyAnimeList exports.
Where haveseen doesn’t win: it doesn’t scrobble automatically from Plex or Kodi (Trakt is better there); it’s newer, so its community is smaller than Trakt’s or Serializd’s; and it runs as a web app you add to your home screen rather than a native iPhone app.
Choose haveseen if you want a free, ad-free TV Time replacement that covers everything you watch. See how haveseen compares with TV Time.
